A heavy fringe sheltered her heart-shaped face, her shapeless grey smock dress gave little hint of the forty-three-year-old body underneath, as was intended. Her body was not her self, after all, it was merely a vessel to be framed and draped. Her necklace looped across her chest as though scribbled by a toddler with a silver crayon.
